Steve is celebrating his Ruby Jubilee! When Steve embarked on his legal career 40 years ago, the world looked a little bit different. Notably in 1979, there was the Three Mile Island nuclear accident, Pink Floyd releases “The Wall,” USSR invades Afghanistan for the first time, Margaret Thatcher was elected prime minister in the UK, Sony releases the Walkman, the first snowboard was invented, and ESPN launches on cable television. We were watching Superman the Movie at the theater and the Bee Gees were on the radio Top 100. Akron was the Rubber Capital of the World and Cleveland was still not winning (some things do remain the same).
During his 40 years of practicing law, Steve has not only seen the complete revamping of the healthcare industry but the digitization of the practice of law. The landscape has been forever changed by technology. From paper filings and submissions and no computers to Google, e-filing, tablets and the like, they have made a huge impact on the proliferation of information and how people look and feel about it. To keep pace with the revolution of the legal world, Steve drew from his strengths. His ability to listen to his clients has served him well.
Steve serves as Of Counsel for BMD and brings with him extensive experience in the health care and hospital arena. For over 31 years, Steve was General Counsel and President and CEO of a community hospital, and he brings that knowledge and experience to his healthcare and hospital practice. His practice also includes business and corporate law; education; real estate; and labor and employment law.
Steve is currently CEO of Hattie Larlham, a not for profit organization which serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the local community. He believes strongly in giving back to the community and leads by example.
We asked Steve for words to or wisdom or words to live by. His answer:
“Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”
