BMD has a lengthy history of practice before State and local government and regulatory bodies. The firm has a broad and diverse Lobbying, Legislative and Government Affairs, and Administrative Law practice. Lawyers within the firm have appeared on behalf of clients in meetings with representatives from the Governor's Office, the Attorney General's Office and leadership in the Legislature to discuss possible new business initiatives or discrete concerning our clients' interactions with State and local government. On numerous occasions we have been engaged in the drafting of legislation for our clients - to address specific concerns, to clarify or revise existing legislation, or to address a perceived need to adopt new legislation. We also actively track proposed legislation impacting such diverse areas as health-related issues, taxation, land use regulation, workers' compensation, and unemployment compensation laws.
We frequently appear on behalf of clients before state and local regulatory boards on licensing matters, regulatory complaints, procurement disputes or when a particular board is involved in rulemaking or statutory recodification.
Several of the Government Relations Practice Group are registered lobbyists and regularly appear before State and local legislative committees to testify on behalf of clients at public hearings on pending legislation, land use issues and government contract issues. The Government Relations Practice Group is also involved in state and local political lobbying and planning.
Members of the Group have been appointed to State commissions, regulatory boards, blue ribbon task forces and other executive and legislative-appointed bodies to study matters of interest to firm clients.
Our firm has a strategic alliance with Compass Consulting, LLC, a government relations and lobbying firm with offices in Florida, Ohio, Washington D.C. and China. When appropriate we are able to put the resources of Compass Consulting to use for our clients. Likewise we work closely, when needed, with a variety of public relations and marketing firms that can benefit our clients.
