Meet Michael De Matteis!

Michael grew up in Canton, Ohio home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, President William McKinley, rock stars Marilyn Manson and Boz Scaggs, and TV host Jack Parr.  He attended Walsh University for his undergraduate degree, earned his MBA from The University of Akron College of Business Administration, and earned his law degree from The University of Akron Law School.  Michael participated in BMD’s Summer Associate Program and upon passing the bar, was hired to practice in the Corporate and Real Estate practice groups in our Akron office.

Since passing the bar two years ago, his practice has continued to grow and the matters he has worked on have become more complex.  He has always been interested in business – helping businesses as well as individuals achieve their goals and objectives.

Recently, he worked on a real estate deal (with Jason Butterworth) where a client purchased a piece of real estate for ~$3M, and simultaneously assigned title to the property to a third-party purchaser, whereby the client netted a $2M profit on the real estate upon assignment.  They negotiated the assignment of the property, all while keeping the identity of the third-party purchaser confidential until closing.  Michael’s latest deal included negotiating and drafting the transaction document for a $5M sale of a client’s insurance company.  Like his golf swing, Michael has found a “sweet spot” in transactional work.

Michael is still very active in the Canton area and enjoys being out and about.  Whether it’s playing a round of golf with friends, spending time with his wife, working out at the gym or playing point for the BMD Attorney Basketball team, Michael strives to maintain a good work life balance.

We asked Michael, what do you enjoy most about your job.  His answer:

“The experience and knowledge I have been able to gain at a young age due to the trust, guidance, and flexibility of many of the partners at BMD.”
